They always start the same.
I sit in a quiet corner. Fiddle about with the camera. Chat to the mums. Then watch and witness and capture.
Every time I settled down to photograph these tender moments for the MILK project, I was invited in to the heart of the family to listen to their personal stories.
For every mum I met, I learnt that there were just as many different ways to breastfeed, with various positions that worked best for them and baby. Everyone shared how they felt about being able to breastfeed and what a deeply satisfying experience it was for them – whether it came easily or after a little battle.
When I met Rosie and Georgie they had it worked out into a swift, smooth operation. It was full of warm, motherly smiles and twirling fingers and toes.
So here’s a little peek behind the scenes at a very happy, very full Georgie. She was showing off her pretty pink cot to me.
It was like MTV Cribs – but with actual cribs and less bling. Georgie did very well in the plush toy stakes though.
