london baby photography in battersea

Whatever the weather, whatever the season, you can’t keep a cute kid down.

Well maybe you can if they’re not quite at the toddling stage yet. But she was definitely at the looking cute and very gorgeous stage.

Bundled up, wrapped in blankets and a whole lot of love this london baby photography session in Battersea was the best way to keep out the chill.

It may have been winter. It may have been VERY cold, but all I feel is an incredible warmth from these images. The chubbiest cheeks, the darkest pools for eyes and just the smallest promise of the first front teeth.

She was delighted by everything. The wind in her face. The camera in her face. Her parents looking and loving that face.

There really isn’t any posing to be done. You find a good spot, with beautiful light and a lovely backdrop. Then you let the family just be, let them reveal themselves in the way that they look at each other. And smile, and cuddle, and support little legs which can’t quite stand on their own yet.© KATE GRIFFIN PHOTOGRAPHY 2013 www.kategriffinphotography.com

That baby is gorgeous, right? Far too cute, get away with murder lovely. But I just can’t help looking at her mum’s face in this photograph. She’s smiling down at her, delighted with the person she bought into the world. Thrilled to wake up every day and get to know her a little more. These are the smiles that are infectious. These are the smiles that you catch and return.

I’m always on the look out for those quieter moments too. The little inbetweens, the sighs, the tired, rosebud pouts. I find them beautiful too. The smiles and laughter quicken memory. These quiet moments slow you down, draw you in, settle you in a memory.

I love to work outside with babies at this age. Apart from the fact that they love a cuddle and can’t run away, they do love the distractions of the everyday outside. We forget how everything is still so new for them. Every experience is different from the day before. Nothing is taken for granted. So it’s not too difficult to get them to gurgle and giggle at the camera for you.

Or to catch them thinking. Chewing on their bottom lip. Realising that the strange person dancing around is Dad, trying and succeeding to catch their attention.

The best fairground ride is up on Dad’s shoulders. The view is splendid from up there. Even at an angle.

This is probably one of my favourites from the session.

A kiss. A fistful of hair. A roar of laughter.

That perfect, unposed, family moment. These are the family portraits I love.

I’ve smiled a  lot revisiting this session, strolling through the park again, watching this family be together.

Where could we walk together? What memories could we make for you?
